Groups
Like bulletin boards
and chat rooms, news groups can be used to give a sense of community
on your small business website.
The benefits of
doing this are described in the section on bulletin boards.
The key difference being that a bulletin board requires people to visit
your web site to post and read notices. A news group operates independently
via email.
If you want to establish
a news group,( as a user group for your products etc) then you can use
the services at Yahoo Groups
or Google Groups. Having
set up a group, you can display a link on your website, for your visitors
to go to the joining page. You can also moderate (i.e.: censor) the
communications to the group list, limit who joins, expel people etc.
Before you set up
a group join a few yourself first, and observe the type of communication.
Then figure out if there is commercial benefit for your business, in
establishing your own group.
